Baton Rouge rapper Kevin Gates, who was found guilty of battery for kicking a teenager during a concert in 2015 in Lakeland, was not released from jail Friday.

Authorities learned that Gates, whose legal name is Kevin Gilyard, had a felony warrant for a weapons offense in Illinois.

Gates was found guilty in October of kicking a female fan at the Rumors Nightclub.

He was to be released from jail Friday before officials learned of the warrant from Illinois.

Gates said he knew of the warrant, according to officials at the jail. He was scheduled to be released Friday after a 180-day sentence.

Gates had a first appearance on the Illinois charge today.
