All 16 Alzheimer’s patients living at Rudy Agapes House in Bradenton were given 36 hours’ notice by owner Nancy Cushman to get out of the facility.

Mike Nuckols, who is now the sole caretaker of his 81-year-old mother, was confused when he got the call a few weeks ago informing him of the eviction.

“I got a call on Wednesday the 8th from a family member of one of the residents and she said I have bad news, they’re closing Rudys down, and I said, okay, when is this happening? She said everyone has to be out the morning of the 10th,” Nuckols explained.

The families found out days later through legal documents online that Nancy knew about the pending eviction notice for months and didn’t say anything.

Nancy also has another facility, just a block away from Rudys, listed in her name.

Bay News 9 went to get answers about the 2nd facility and the woman who answered the door told reporter Lauren Verno to leave that it was private property.

The woman did not confirm if she was Nancy Cushman, but according to the national provider identifier database, the home is registered as Rudy Agapes House 2 an assisted living facility operated by Nancy Cushman.

“Everybody is very angry and hurt. They feel like they’re trust was betrayed, and the fact that Nancy still has a license is troubling,” Nuckols said.

While Nuckols is grateful for being able to take care of his mother, he still wants answers as to why this happened.

Bay News 9 reached out to the agency for Health Care Administration and they said the investigation is ongoing.
