The Treasure Island Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the pilot of an ultralight that was seen illegally flying over Treasure Island waters.

The aircraft was spotted Saturday afternoon taking off between Isle of Capri and Eleanor Island in John’s Pass, according to police.

City ordinances prohibited any aircraft from taking off from either park land, water or beach unless there is an emergency.

“This is a congested recreational spot, favored by many swimmers sand boaters, and the pilot’s reckless behavior placed many unsuspecting visitors at risk,” the department said in a Facebook post.

Police said the aircraft has also been seen in the Treasure Island area for the past week, flying over the Gulf of Mexico.
