The Manatee County School Board voted to give a pay raise to teachers after they expressed their concerns Monday.

Longevity pay will kick in for teachers who hit 16 years and 25 years of service.

The board also agreed to give "highly effective" teachers four steps on the pay scale and "effective" teachers three steps.

No changes will be made to teacher health insurance, and no retroactive pay will be issued.

More than 100 teachers held up signs and waved to drivers during rush hour traffic Monday.

The battle had been going for months since teachers rejected a tentative contract last fall.
