A 33-year-old man from North Carolina was struck and killed by a vehicle late Thursday on Gandy Boulevard in St. Petersburg.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, James Stowell of Durham, North Carolina was killed when, for unknown reasons, he stepped into the path of a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck at 11:04 p.m.
The crash happened on Gandy Boulevard just east of 4th Street North. Stowell died at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the Toyota, a 51-year-old man from Belleair Bluffs, was not injured.
The road was shut down for several hours but it reopened around 4:30 Friday morning.
The crash remains under investigation.
