Every year for the past 12 years, Tim Caine takes it upon himself to show the community the real meaning of Easter.

  • Tim Caine dresses as Jesus covered in blood, carrying cross
  • Caine does it to show the real meaning of Easter

The Saturday before Easter, Caine covers himself in red paint to resemble blood, puts on a tattered robe and a crown of thorns, and carries a cross for three miles down Brandon Boulevard.

"All the things that have been happening in the world, all the trouble and the bad things, why don’t we show something good? So that’s why I do it,” Caine said.

Caine walks with friends and fellow church goers behind him. Some carry signs, others play the role of the Roman soldiers who walked behind Jesus. Caine said he is most known for his ability to get into character to act out a realistic portrayal of Jesus. While his cross is made of Styrofoam, he treats it as if it’s made of wood, struggling not to collapse under its weight. He even falls a few times.

Some drivers honk, others pull out their phones and take pictures and videos.

Bill Brinson, who manages Weavers Tire & Automotive on Brandon Boulevard, said he looks forward to seeing Caine pass by the day before Easter each year.

"For someone to take their time out of their busy schedule to go out there and do that, it’s really cool,” Brinson said.

But Caine said he doesn’t do it for fame.

"Even if nobody showed up here, it doesn’t bother me,” Caine said. “I am not doing it for them, I am not doing it for me, I am doing it for Jesus."

Caine said Easter Sunday he will walk again, this time dressed as a resurrected Jesus.
