It was a proud moment for one Polk County deputy and one former Polk Sheriff.

Monday, April 17, Kyle Swonger fulfilled his dream of becoming a Polk County Sheriff’s Office detention deputy. He also fulfilled his dream of having his badge pinned by his grandfather, a retired Polk County Sheriff.

Louie Mims was elected Sheriff if 1976 and served for eight years. Prior to that, he worked for the Florida Highway Patrol and served in the U.S. Army Air Defense.

The sheriff’s office shared the proud moment on their Facebook page saying:

“Kyle - we know your grandfather is so proud of you and we can't wait to see what other dreams of yours are realized during your PCSO career! Congratulations!

Sheriff Mims - thank you for your service to our country, state, and county!”
