An Englewood couple expecting their first child got a surprise, or rather three surprises during the birth last month, as they became parents to quadruplets.

  • Quadruplets born on March 28
  • Born eight weeks early
  • Chances of spontaneous quadruplet birth: 1 in 800,000

Brand new parents Kyle and Amanda Corcoran welcomed Harrison, Preston, Jackson and Lila into the world on March 28.

"They just kept counting heartbeats," said Amanda. "It was for a minute we were parents of twins, for five minutes we were parents of triplets, then they finally counted the fourth heartbeat and that's when they said, 'You're done.'"

With no history of twins in either family, the fact that these quadruplets were conceived naturally makes them even more special.

Doctors at Sarasota Memorial said the chances of this type of spontaneous pregnancy is 1 in 800,000.

While it might seem overwhelming to others, this family considers the occurrence a blessing.

"Tears of joy," said Kyle. "Very happy -- we're so happy they're finally here."

The four bundles of joy didn't come without complications. All four were born about 8 weeks early within minutes of each other. It will be another month before the babies get to go home.

For their part, the happy parents are glad to wait.

"When they all came out and they were all crying and screaming, it was probably the most emotional part of my delivery, was to hear our babies for the first time," said Amanda.
