  • No injuries

Flames tore through the Public Storage location at 14770 66th Street North in Largo late Wednesday. Officials said the damage tops $1 million.

Dozens of firefighters responded to the fire, which started around 10:30 p.m. Crews discovered the fire while doing a routine check of smoke in the community.

There were no injuries but there was a lot of damage. About 20 units were impacted.

Crews from Largo, Seminole, Pinellas Park, Clearwater and St. Petersburg were able to bring the flames under control after an hour. Officials said various contents inside the units made fighting the fire difficult.

"The complications are these storage units get pretty full of, full of fuel," said Largo Fire Rescue District Chief Bobby Shea. "One of the units had a bit of weapons and ammunition in it.  Luckily, no firefighters were hurt and no civilians."

Authorities are sifting through the damage.
