Two people received serious injuries in a crash Saturday morning around 6:30 a.m. involving three vehicles and a boat trailer.

  • Two seriously injured in crash involving three vehicles, boat trailer
  • 2nd vehicle crashed into boat trailer parked along I-75
  • Driver towing boat cited for improper stopping/parking

Troopers said Willie Daniel, 46, was driving a Chevy Tahoe and towing a boat trailer on I-75 when he noticed an issue with his vehicle and stopped partially along the inside shoulder and inside southbound lane of I-75.

As Daniel got out of his vehicle to inspect it, a Chevrolet HHR--driven by Stace Sanders, 43--traveling in the inside lane of I-75 collided with the boat trailer. The impact propelled the boat forward and off the trailer and promptly caught fire, according to the report.

The Chevrolet HHR traveled across the roadway and was struck by a third vehicle. The driver of third vehicle was not injured in the crash.

Troopers said the fire from the boat spread to the Chevy Tahoe. The crash shut down portions of southbound I-75 for an extended period.

Both Daniel and Sanders received serious injuries in the crash. They were transported to Tampa General Hospital.

Daniel’s passenger, Juanita Daniel, 70, only received minor injuries.

Troopers said Daniel was cited for improper stopping/parking.
