Five Hillsborough County students are graduating high school with quite the accomplishment: 13 years of perfect attendance.

  • 5 high school seniors out of 215,000 have perfect attendance
  • Been to school every day since kindergarten

It’s a rare feat.

This year, five out of 215,000 high school seniors in Hillsborough have been to school every day since kindergarten.

The school board recognized the five student at a board meeting this week: Emilie Dunn (Newsome High), Ryan Ingraham (Sickles), Jacob Lorentzen (Durant), Logan Phillips (Pepin Academy) and Michael Stone (King).

Ingraham said the attendance seed was laid early for him.

“My parents kind of like, they kind of set that standard and I kind of followed it,” Ingraham said.

Ingraham said he also showed up for class each day because he didn’t want to miss any important lessons.

“One thing I realize since I’m at school every day, I see kids miss then they have to get all the makeup work,” Ingraham said. "You’re literally like a day behind in seven classes. You have to double the work to get back to normal.”

Not a problem for Ingraham. He’s leaving Sickles High School with a 6.4 GPA.

Suncoast Credit Union and Toyota of Tampa Bay will present each of the students with items memorializing and rewarding their achievements. In addition, Toyota of Tampa Bay will give away a Toyota Scion to one lucky graduate June 4.

The five seniors who have earned perfect attendance for 13 years will receive one entry ticket for each year of perfect attendance for their well-deserved accomplishment.

Another 1,840 eligible seniors will be provided one entry ticket for having earned at least one year of perfect attendance during high school.
