  • FHP looking for person of interest in this case

Christopher Try, 20, was booked into custody just before 2:30 a.m., Thursday, as he is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury and reckless driving.

Try, who already has an arrest record, is one of two people of interest named on Wednesday, the FHP stated.

A video of the crash shows a 1998 Ford Expedition losing control, smashing into a vehicle, a house and running over 14-year-old Johnny Walsh Jr. on a bicycle.

Luckily, Johnny was able to get up and only suffered minor injuries.

The SUV was dumped in a wooded area behind a car dealership in Holiday, but it was found Wednesday by a mosquito control crew.

Officials said Johnny's brother, Damari Stacey, spotted Try at McDonald's on Wedenesday and called authorities.

"I heard him on the phone talking about it, so I reported it to my father and my father told me to call the cops, so I called the cops about it," Stacey said.

Johnny's family is feeling relief but it still in shock from the incident.

"I'm just afraid for my kids to even come outside, I'm kind of traumatized, every time I look at the picture, I can't even sleep," Johnny Walsh Sr. said.

"There's no reason to hit my little brother and not turn yourself in, especially not to stop," Stacey said.

Try is being held on a $10,500 bond.

FHP said it is still searching for people who may have identified Try or obstructed the investigation.

Questions still surround the owner of the SUV, who investigators say reported her expedition stolen after the accident happened.

A second person of interest named Wednesday in this investigation has not been arrested and detectives are not saying what the man’s possible involvement is.
