A wildfire burning outside the Bay area is causing some issues locally.

The fire burning in Highlands County has already burned about 8,000 acres.

The problem for locals is smoke.

Bay News 9 has received calls Thursday morning from people in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties reported a smokey smell.

Bay News 9 Meteorologist Juli Marquez said winds coming from the east are bringing the smoke to our area.

The Florida Forest Service said the wildfire in Highlands is located on the Highlands/Polk County line.

Local fire crews said there are no new fires right now.
