A New Port Richey woman has been charged with attempted murder after officials said she stabbed her live-in boyfriend.

The incident just before midnight Wednesday night at a Royal Palm Inn on Highway 19 in New Port Richey. 

Officers responded to a stabbing call and found the victim on the ground near the front office of the hotel. 

The victim had a stab wound in his chest right above his heart. 

The victim and a witness identified the suspect as Paula Brandt, who the victim said is his live-in girlfriend.

Officers found Brandt outside their hotel room with blood on her hands, arms, face, and clothing. 

They searched the room and found a knife on the floor behind the door. 

The victim and a witness told officers that Brandt stabbed the man during an argument. 

The victim was transported to Bayonet Point Hospital with a collapsed lung. He is listed in serious but stable condition. 

Officials said Brandt refused to answer any questions, and while handcuffed, spit in an officer's face. 

Brandt is charged with attempted murder and battery on a law enforcement officer.
