Motorcyclist seriously injured after crashing into alligator

A motorcyclist was seriously injured overnight after hitting an alligator on SR 674 in Hillsborough County. 

Troopers said Calun Nelson, 27, of Wimauma, was traveling westbound on SR 674, west of Katie Stanaland Road, when an alligator crossing the road traveled into his path. 

The motorcycle collided with the alligator, causing Nelson to be ejected from his bike. 

Nelson was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries. 

The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m.
