Polk County Fire Rescue and Lakeland Fire Department responded to a commercial fire Sunday morning.

Fire crews were called out to Wood Mulch Products, Inc. around 9:30 a.m. to a large outside fire.

Firefighters said a 53-ft. mulching trailer and a 20 x 20 ft. concrete storage building were fully involved in flames.

Crews also said 15 percent of a 200 x 25 ft. building that housed a 500-gallon diesel tank and heavy equipment was on fire.

Firefighters were able to stop the fire from reaching the diesel tank and equipment.

Various piles of mulch and pre-cut timber throughout the property were also on fire. Fire crews will remain on scene for several hours to ensure no rekindle occures.

Officials said a large smoke column was visible from miles away before fire crews arrived on scene.

Residents who live in the area may see or smell smoke, especially near Dawn Heights Road, Christy Lane, Lisa Lane, and Cindy Lane, officials said.

One firefighter was injured while battling the blaze. Officials said she was transported to the hospital and her condition is not thought to be serious.
