St. Pete resident and racer Sabastien Bourdais is recovering from a violent and fiery crash.
Bourdais was injured during the Indy 500 qualifier Friday night when he lost control of his racecar and collided into a side wall.
He suffered fractures in his hip and pelvis and immediately went into surgery.
The 38-year-old won the Indy car season's opening grand prix of St. Petersburg.
