Former Florida State fullback Freddie Stevenson, 22, is taking his skills to the pros and to "the Windy City."

  • Reports to the team May 11

Stevenson signed a three-year contract with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent. He reports to the team in Chicago on May 11.

“It’s a blessing," said Stevenson. "I was so excited. I went around the house like I was the number one overall draft pick. I was happy and I’m just ready for the opportunity to show what I can do.”

The Bartow native previously showed off his skills for FSU fans, blocking for running back Dalvin Cook during Cook’s record-breaking seasons. It’s been his dream to play in the NFL since he was a toddler.

Stevenson believes his unselfish attitude, and willingness to put the team first has got him this far. Now, he said he’s got to get ready for professional football, and the snow, something he’s never seen before.

“First thing I got to get is a car to drive in the snow,” said Stevenson.

Playing for the Chicago Bears is a big deal for his family too. His mom, who raised him by herself for some time, is ecstatic.

“She texts me everyday, saying 'Be thankful, make sure you pray every night, and tell the Lord thank you because you wouldn’t be anywhere without him,'” Stevenson said.

Freddie is one of seven children, between both of his parents. He said his father returned to the family in the early 2000s, and has since become a pastor who recently got his own congregation.

“God’s been good to us. It’s a blessing,” Stevenson said.
