The Haines City Police Department and Polk County Sheriff’s Office are asking the public's help in locating a woman missing since May 29.

  • Yanela Lorente, 28, last seen on Cherokee Ave. in Haines City
  • Car found abandoned on Old Polk City Road
  • Have information? Call Haines City Police

The agencies are investigating the disappearance of 28-year-old Yanela Lorente. Lorente hasn’t been seen since Sunday, when she left her house on Cherokee Avenue in Haines City.

Her car was found abandoned on Old Polk City Road near Highway 557. Police and the sheriff’s office have searched the area, but there is no sign of Lorente.

“Anything could happen,” said Lorente’s sister, Yani Lorente. “When something like this happens, the worst always comes to your head because you never know.”

Investigators said Lorente’s phone is turned off and there has been no sign of her aside from the abandoned car. The longer her disappearance lasts, the more police fear foul play.

“I already miss her and it’s already been four days,” said Yani as she wiped away tears.

Lorente’s family is putting up missing person’s posters, and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Colon with the Haines City Police Department at 863-421-3636, ext 2268. Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward can also contact Heartland Crimestoppers at 1-800-226-8477.
