The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian Friday night.

  • Troopers say cracked side mirror left at scene belongs to Accord

Austyn Cochuyt, 17, of Zephyrhills was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle on U.S. 301 in Pasco County.

The crash occurred at about 7:08 p.m. just south of Justin Avenue.

Troopers said a Honda Accord was traveling southbound on U.S. 301 when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle left the roadway and struck with teen, who was walking northbound on the west grass shoulder of U.S. 301.

The vehicle fled the scene after hitting Cochuyt and left behind a greenish-gray side mirror.

Cochuyt was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in serious condition.
