  • Overnight fire at Brandon condo complex
  • Heavy damage to 8-unit complex
  • No injuries, building safely evacuated

According to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, firefighters responded to the The Hamptons condo complex in the 500 block of Golden Raintree Place just after 2 a.m.

Flames and heavy smoke were pouring through the roof when firefighters arrived. Firefighters and residents helped evacuate the 8-unit building. There were no injuries.

All of the units sustained some damage - some were destroyed.

"There was a young man that came over and was banging on the door letting everyone know there was a fire," said resident Michael Hillard Sr., who escaped the fire with his son. "We were really blessed. We came out the bottom and (the building) was inundated in flames. The fire was enormous."

It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the flames under control.

The fire is under investigation and the Red Cross is assisting the residents that were impacted.
