The Dunedin City Council is asking for the public’s input on how to improve 29 miles of Alternate US 19 in Pinellas County.

While traffic is certainly on the minds of the state when it comes to Alternate US 19, there’s a lot more on the list—pedestrian safety, freight movement and egress, and land use.

Larry Bigelow and his wife say they have an idea for the state’s list.

The Bigelows are big trail users and in order to get to the trail, they’ve got to park on the west side of Alternation US 19, then cross the busy road.

“If you could put the parking over there closer, we could drive to that parking and then be right on the bike trail without having a problem like we’re looking at right here,” Larry said.

Commissioners say your ideas can be something as simple as new landscaping, or as complex as redirecting entire sections of road, if you feel it will make a positive difference.

“Don’t thing that it has to look exactly as it looks now. So, you can really open up your though process as to what could we really do to this whole area to make it function better,” Joan Rice, Dunedin Transportation and Traffic Engineer, said.
