Here's your Tampa area weather forecast for late Thursday into Friday, with a look at the weekend ahead.

  • Storms start earlier
  • Slightly drier Saturday
  • Pattern change next week

We had another round of scattered thunderstorms with good coverage across the region. There will still be a chance of an isolated storm overnight; otherwise expect variably cloudy skies headed toward the morning.

The morning will be mostly quiet over land, but there will be some scattered storms over the gulf and near the coast in the morning.

Lows will be near where they are now, mainly in the low to mid 70s.

Friday will feature scattered storms getting a quicker start and moving eastward into the inland areas by the late afternoon to evening.

Highs will be near 89. The coverage of storms will be at about 40 to 50 percent.

Friday night will feature storms dying down inland and otherwise partly cloudy for the rest of the area with lows in the mid 70s.

Saturday will feature slightly drier air, resulting in a rain chance that will be a little lower, at about 30 to 40 percent. The scattered storms we do see will tend to propagate inland and eastward as the afternoon goes along. Highs will be in the upper 80s to near 90.

Sunday will start mainly dry with sunshine, allowing our highs to reach 90 quickly. But then scattered storms will start building that afternoon and move toward our side of the state by that evenings.

Next week is still up in the air, as there are two possible scenarios: either a huge resurgence of moisture results in very heavy rains for our area, or the moisture misses us to the south and we continue with just scattered storms.

We will fine tune that forecast over the next couple days and keep you updated.
