A Pasco County family is grieving after a tragic accident Thursday morning out of Hillsborough County.

  • William Vantassel, 36, of Hudson, died at the scene after driving his car into the large branch
  • Crash was on Orient Rd just before 4 a.m.
  • Tree limb fell and became caught in power lines, 10 feet off ground

William Vantassel, 36, was killed after his car crashed into a tree limb that was hanging from power lines across the road.

“You never know when the day is going to come or when something is going to happen," said Madison Burton, 12, Vantassel's fiance's son.

The accident happened just beofre 4 a.m. on Orient Road. Vantassel's family said he went to work at 4:15 a.m. each day and was on his way to work when the tragic accident happened.

Traffic homicide detectives determined that the tree limb fell shorty before the crash and got caught in power lines, dangling about 10 feet off of the ground.

Deputies said Vantassel did not see the hanging limb and drove into it. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Vantassel grew up in Pasco County and worked for US Foods. Burton said if Vantassel wasn't at work, he was either with his family or the gym.

"He was really nice, he took me to the gym with him.

Vantassel is survived by his two teenaged daughters and his fiance's son, Madison Burton.

"He was really caring. If you wanted something he would work and get it for you, he would do things with you, he wouldn't leave you out of anything," Burton said. "He love you the same as every other kid, he was like the best dad."
