A firefighter was injured and a furniture store was badly damaged after a late-night fire.

  • Southern Used Furniture damaged by fire
  • Injured firefighter treated at local hospital
  • Cause of fire isn't yet known

It happened Sunday night at Southern Used Furniture along Nebraska Avenue.

The blaze had northbound Nebraska Avenue shut down overnight.

The furniture store is just feet from the road and two other businesses are attached to it, but the fire did not spread.

Firefighters tried to put the fire out from inside the building, but it was spreading too quickly. They backed out and worked to protect the neighboring businesses.

The cause of the fire is not known. There were no employees in the business at the time, but it was packed full of furniture that caused the fire to spread quickly.

The fire was under control by 1 a.m., Monday, but the business will likely be a total loss.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was treated at a local hospital.
