Tropical Storm Bret formed as it entered the Southern Caribbean Monday. Bret is forecast to move along the coast of South America over the next few days.

It will impact the Southern Windward Islands near Trinidad and Tobago within the next 24 hours.  Bret should eventually weaken as it moves into more unfavorable waters.

Some of the moisture from Bret would work back toward Florida later next week.

Also, closer to home, a new tropical depression or tropical storm could form in the Central Gulf of Mexico soon.  A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for the coast of Louisiana due to the  development of this system.  In any event, no matter where the center goes, expect very heavy rain and possible flooding along the Central Gulf Coast to the east of the center.  These rains of 10-15 inches possible will impact the coastal region of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and the Western Florida Panhandle.

Rainy weather will continue around our region for the next few days as tropical moisture continues to spread up from the Caribbean.  We aren’t expecting any major impacts from the developing tropical system in the Gulf other than breezy conditions, windy over the Gulf waters.

In April, a rare tropical storm formed in the Atlantic and became Arlene, the first named storm of 2017.
