Here's your Tampa area weather forecast for late Thursday and Friday, with a look at the weekend ahead.

  • Lower rain chance
  • Hot highs
  • Nice beach weekend

Scattered storms have all had a westward movement and will die down or just move into the gulf overnight, with skies going partly cloudy to mostly clear into early Friday morning.

Lows will be in the low 70s north and the mid 70s from the bay southward.

Friday will feature the lowest rain chance we have seen in a long time. Expect a mostly sunny morning with partly cloudy skies for the afternoon. There will be enough moisture to trigger a few isolated storms in the afternoon to evening, but the coverage will only be at about 20 percent.

High temperatures will be in the mid 90s for most spots away from the water.

Friday night will feature partly cloudy skies going mostly clear, with lows in the mid to upper 70s.

Saturday will start out sunny with skies going partly cloudy. There will be a few more scattered storms in the afternoon to evening, with the rain chance back up to 30 percent. High temperatures will again be near the mid 90s for most spots before the scattered storms kick in.

Sunday will wrap up the weekend in typical summer fashion with a 30 to 40 percent coverage of afternoon to evening scattered storms. Highs will be in the low to mid 90s.

Next week will feature more clouds and a better coverage of scattered storms as a front pushes more moisture back into our atmosphere.

NATIONAL

The remnants of Cindy will continue to produce heavy rain in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle through tomorrow.

As the ex-Cindy circulation moves up into Arkansas and Tennessee, it will encounter a rather strong cold front for late June.  The combination of the Cindy rains and the front could produce heavy rain and flooding in the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys.

Below normal temperatures will spread out of the Northern Rockies into the Central Plains over the next two days.  The front will be strong enough to reach the northern tip of Florida by early next week.

CARIBBEAN

A tropical wave (the remnants of Tropical Storm Bret) continues to bring gusty showers to the Central Caribbean around Jamaica.  The wave will move over the Yucatan by tomorrow and into the Bay of Campeche in the Southwestern Gulf over the weekend.
