UPDATE: 6:29 p.m. - Donovan Carruthers has been found safe in California, according to the Haines City Police.

Detectives were able to contact Joseff Rhodes via telephone, and subsequently Rhodes and Donovan showed up at the Rialto Police Department.

At this time, Rialto Police have Donovan in their care and are waiting transfer him to California Child Services.

Authorities said Tuesday that a 7-year-old boy has been missing for days after his mother was found dead inside an Orlando motel.

A missing child alert has been issued.

Haines City Police said Donovan Carruthers, 7, was last seen June 18 in Davenport.

His mother, Amber Elizabeth Carruthers, was found dead the day before at the Econo Lodge Inn and Suites on Orange Blossom Trail.  

Police said the death has been classified as a homicide. No arrest has been made.

Authorities are looking for both Donovan Carruthers and 41-year-old Joseff Rhodes of Davenport and wouldn't say if Rhodes was a suspect in the slaying.

There was no word on why the missing child alert was issued Tuesday instead of earlier.

Rhodes has a criminal history of prostitution and human trafficking.

Donovan Carruthers, is 4 feet tall and 60 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Joseff Rhodes is 5 feet 6 inches tall.
