A St. Petersburg police officer was arrested Friday morning after he was seen picking up a prostitute in his personal vehicle on his day off.

An undercover officer conducting a prostitution operation arrested Officer Reginald Mitchell, 46, for soliciting a prostitute in the 1300 block of 34th Street North. 

Mitchell is facing a prostitution solicitation charge, a misdemeanor, and was given a notice to appear in court. 

Mitchell is also under an internal investigation through the Office of Professional Standards, officials reported. He has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation. 

The woman Mitchell was seen with, Amanda McLaughlin, 32, faces a prostitution charge. The is a felony charge because she has prior convictions for prostitution, officials said. Her case is being referred to the State Attorney's Office.
