  • Carol McHugh last seen June 8
  • McHugh suffers from memory issues
  • If you see McHugh, call 911

Carol McHugh is believed to be missing and endangered. She was last seen on Thursday, June 8, around 5:30 p.m. near the Seven Lakes subdivision off Moccasin Slough Road in Inverness.

McHugh suffers from memory issues and is not considered a danger to others, officials said.

McHugh is 5'1 and 113 lbs. She was last seen wearing a tan shirt with brown stripes and a large collar and dark colored pants.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office dedicated 90 ground units to help in the search for McHugh. Crews searched by air and by boat while deputies went door to door.

Volunteers also rode horses into wooded areas to help in the search.

Citrus Sheriff Mike Pendergast said he organized the large-scale response in hopes of finding McHugh by nightfall.

“The longer she remains missing, the more challenging that becomes for us, so we want to make sure we are really putting the resources out there to make sure we find her during the hours of daylight,” Pendergast said. “The challenges are the heat, the fact that there's so much vegetation on the trees, the fact we have so much water.”

Neighbors are also keeping an eye out for McHugh.

"I notice everyone is paying attention and is very close and caring,” neighbor Zona Phillips said.

Officials ask that if you see Carol McHugh, call 911 immediately.
