Here's your Tampa area weather forecast for late Friday into Saturday morning, as well as a look at the weekend ahead.

  • Slightly drier air
  • Fewer storms
  • Slow moving

The showers and storms today moved westward into the Gulf quickly again today. Therefore, expect only a lingering chance of a shower for the rest of the evening.

Otherwise, it will just be variably cloudy overnight into the morning. Lows will be in the mid to upper 70s for Saturday morning.

Slightly drier air will move into our atmosphere this weekend, resulting in a lower coverage of scattered storms compared to what we have seen this week. There will still be some storms, but expect the coverage to be down around 30 percent.

It will be mostly sunny and hot in between the storms, with highs in the mid 90s inland and low 90s for coastal areas. There will at least be an afternoon sea breeze return, so it will feel slightly more comfortable right on the beach.

Any scattered storms will die down Saturday night, leading into partly cloudy skies. Lows will be in the mid to upper 70s.

Sunday will wrap up the weekend on a similar note, with mostly sunny skies and only a 30 percent coverage of scattered storms. Remember that the low coverage chance has nothing to do with intensity, so if you get one of the storms it will be very heavy -- with frequent lightning -- and move very slowly.

Highs on Sunday will again be in the low to mid 90s.

There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the mid-Atlantic, along with heavy rain today.

A new tropical wave will be moving across the Lesser Antilles into the Eastern Caribbean and will cause showers through Saturday evening.
