The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said Daniel Nixon intentionally squeezed the infant so hard that she suffered more than 20 fractures to her ribs.

Nixon admitted to investigators that he did it twice because the baby was crying and he was frustrated.

Investigators said the incidents occurred between June 19 and July 4. The one month old was admitted to John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital for fractured ribs and bruising on July 11.

The child’s mother Sara Nixon, 25, and Daniel, originally brought the infant to the hospital for digestive problems and a bruise to her leg.

Doctors said the infant suffered from over 20 rib fractures.

Daniel Nixon was arrested and booked into the Pinellas County jail on July 13. He is charged with one count of aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm.

The infant has since been released from the hospital and is in custody of a family member.

The investigation is ongoing.
