Christine Hoffman is now the director of the Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation’s Academy.

Hoffman made headlines earlier this year after sending an email to staff saying white students should be in the same class at Campbell Park, a predominantly black school.

The controversy caused Hoffman to retire from the Pinellas County School District. Now, she is working for the nonprofit organization in Clearwater.

The academy serves about 100 fourth to eighth grade students who have difficulty at their grade level, low self-esteem or trouble adjusting to their academic environment.

The organization sent a statement about Hoffman’s hiring Friday afternoon saying, “Mrs. Hoffman brings extensive leadership experience in education and we are looking forward to the work she will do on behalf of our students.”
