A group of kids from the Boys and Girls Club and Lockhart Elementary Magnet School are feeling the heat in the kitchen this summer.

  • Kids taught by professional chefs in 'Where Love Grows' program
  • Kids learn to make healthy meals from inexpensive ingredients

They’re participating in the “Where Love Grows” cooking series, a partnership between the Where Love Grows Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Epicurean Hotel.

For the past five weeks, 23 kids have gotten tours of The Epicurean and Bern's Steak House kitchens and learned to cook from professional chefs.

"The whole program was inspired by the proverb, catch a fish, eat for a day, teach to fish, eat for a lifetime,” Where Love Grows Founder and CEO Vicki Anazlone said.

The program’s goal is to help end childhood hunger by teaching kids to make healthy meals from inexpensive and easily-accessible ingredients.

"I can just walk in and say what do I really want to eat and now that I have a wide variety of how to cook, now I can just put something together,” 15-year-old Steven Faison said.

The Where Love Grows Foundation has prepared and served more than 8,400 meals to children since 2013.
