  • Deputies: Cosme alleged roommate said, 'I don't like the way you are'

Detectives said Miguel Cosme admitted to killing his roommate Thursday.

Officials said Polk deputies were called out to a home on Highway 98 in Frostproof after a report of an armed fight with someone possibly being killed.

When deputies arrived, they said Cosme was standing in the front yard with his arms raised and told deputies he "did it."

Deputies found a man in the doorway of the home with multiple lacerations to the neck and shoulder area. A small kitchen knife was also found near him.

Cosme told detectives that he and the stabbing victim had been roommates for about three months and that they had been sitting on the couch drinking beer before the fight began.

Investigators said Cosme said his roommate, who was intoxicated, said, "I don't like the way you are," to Cosme. Cosme said the statement was offensive and discriminatory toward him, and he got mad. He told detectives that he punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the floor, and then kicked the victim in the head and groin with steel-toed work boots.

Cosme said he then went to his room and armed himself with a kitchen knife. He told detectives that he feared his roommate would harm him, so he jabbed and cut the victim's neck several times.

Cosme is charged with second degree murder with a weapon. He is being held in the Polk County jail until a first appearance before a judge Saturday.
