A Sarasota urologist is behind bars after police said he continued to see patients for months after his medical license was suspended.

  • Urologist Ronald Wheeler accused of treating patients with suspended license
  • Wheeler had license revoked in April
  • Police say he treated anywhere from 4-12 patients since then

Ronald Wheeler had been practicing medicine since the 1980’s until his license was revoked this past April.

On Wednesday, police executed a search warrant at his Sarasota office after the Health Department received a tip that he was still seeing patients.

Officers seized dozens of patient records. Police said they’ve heard from people who are out nearly $50,000 for procedures they paid for, but never collected.

“He was diagnosing patients as having prostate cancer without any type of biopsy being done. He was strictly going off of MRI films,” officials said.

Police believe Wheeler has treated anywhere from 4 – 12 patients since his license was revoked. Officials are asking anyone who has seen him recently to contact police at (941) 366-8000.
