Bay area residents can expect a much drier day on Tuesday as Emily has moved out of the area.

But some residents, mainly in Manatee, Sarasota and Polk counties, will be cleaning up debris after the weak tropical storm moved through the area.

Emily dumped significant rainfall on the Bay area Monday, downing trees and causing a few thousand power outages. Also, the Coast Guard had to rescue to brothers from Tampa Bay after their 17-foot boat fishing boat sank during the storm.

Emily made landfall on Anna Maria Island just west of Bradenton at 10:45 a.m.

Luckily it didn’t have time to strengthen much and only did minor damage and then quickly weakened inland. Just before 5 p.m. it was downgraded to a depression.

The storm brought flooding to parts of Tampa Bay with 2 to 4 inches of rain and isolated amounts in Bradenton of 6-8 inches.

Flooding was a major issue in Manatee County as water flowed above sidewalks in several neighborhoods, causing street closures throughout the day. Also, trees and some power lines were downed across the area.

High winds forced the closure of the Skyway Bridge and in Indian Rocks Beach, a crane was toppled over by high winds.

In a Sarasota neighborhood, a 40-foot tree was uprooted.

Meanwhile in the Lakeland area, heavy rains caused flooding and the closure of multiple streets and intersections. Some homeowners voluntarily evacuated as flood waters got higher.

Emergency Management officials are scheduled to tour Lakeland neighborhoods near Cannon Street and Jensen Avenue Tuesday.
