The lawyer for the woman arrested in last week's triple fatal crash on the Selmon Expressway is saying his client had seizures the day of the crash and was not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Attorney Hubbell Losson said Amber Nicole Perera blacked out during the Aug. 10 crash in Tampa that left Luiz Felipak, 41, Rita Felipak, 29, and Giorgia Felipak, 8 dead.  

Tampa police said Perera was impaired when she lost control of her vehicle that set off a chain reaction of crashes. 

Perera was charged with three counts of DUI manslaughter, DUI with serious bodily injury and hit-and-run failure to remain at the scene, and tampering with evidence. 

Witnesses told police Perera was driving close to 90 mph while passing other vehicles just before crashing into a vehicle occupied by the three victims. 

Their car crossed the median, was hit by other cars and burst into flames. Police say Perera slurred her words and struggled to maintain her balance during a field sobriety test.

Police said Perera attempted to leave the scene but was apprehended minutes later. 

According to the arrest report, Perera admitted to taking powerful prescription medications that treat anxiety - Ativan and Lexapro.

Her pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 16 at 10 a.m.
