Gert looks a little more impressive on satellite now with a more symmetrical look to its cloud pattern.  It continues to strengthen slowly and could become a Category two hurricane.

The good news is it won’t matter as it will stay out over the open waters of the Atlantic.  Gert will continue moving northeast and become non-tropical in a couple days when it moves over the cooler waters.

The only indirect effect will be larger waves and swells along the coast of the Eastern seaboard.

We’re watching two other tropical waves in the Atlantic that have a chance of developing as they move westward over the next week.  However, as of right now there is no threat to our region or the U.S. from anything in the tropics.

Maximum sustained winds are at 85 mph with higher gusts.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the center. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 979 mb.
