Testimony wrapped up on Aug. 16 in the first degree murder trial of Nathan Johnson.

Johnson, 18, was just days away from his 17th birthday when prosecutors said he participated in the brutal murder of 31-year-old Robert Banks at a mobile home in Lakeland.

In court testimony during day two of the trial, witness Thalia Velez said she saw Johnson participate in the attack. She also testified that the attackers used a racial slur while assaulting Banks.

“They were all calling him the n-word,” she said.

Prosecutors also played a video recording of detectives interrogating Johnson after his arrest. In the video, he admitted to participating in the attack and of disposing of Banks’s body.

He also told detectives that he had taken pictures of Banks's body after he died and that he sent those pictures to a woman.

Johnson, two older brothers and one of their friends are accused of killing Banks in January 2016 because they believed he had raped a woman they knew. The four were arrested the following March.

Closing statements and jury deliberations were expected to start Thursday morning.
