UPDATE: 5:01 p.m. - The county's Hazmat team has cleared the building of any dangerous substances. They determined that the white, powdery substance found in the envelope was paper dust that resembled a white substance.

Officials said there is no threat to the public. The courthouse will remain closed for the remainder of the day, but will reopen at 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

 


 

The Citrus County courthouse in Inverness was evacuated on Aug. 23 as a precaution following the discovery of a white, powdery substance in an envelope inside the building.

Officials said a clerk's office employee found the envelope. The county's Fire Rescue Hazmat team is assisting the Inverness Fire Department in investigating the substance and evacuating all employees and visitors.

No injuries have been reported at this time. The courthouse will remain closed until further notice.
