Here's your Tampa area weather forecast for late Thursday into Friday, with a glimpse at conditions through the weekend.

  • Rain chance high through Friday
  • Normal pattern next week
  • Morning storms start Tuesday

The small low pressure to our south that will be drifting northward this weekend will end up in the Atlantic east of Cape Canaveral Saturday and Sunday.

At that point it could slowly develop into a tropical storm, but it would not have a direct impact to our area, as it would drift northeast away from us.

Locally, atmospheric moisture is high due to the small low pressure just to our southwest. Storms will continue to head west into the gulf this evening.

Overnight will quiet down with partly cloudy skies and lows in the low 70s north, mid 70s inland, and upper 70s near the coast.   There may be storms redeveloping along the coast south of Tampa bay toward daybreak.

Friday will start out with partly cloudy skies and a few scattered showers in the gulf. As the day goes along scattered storms will form and expand through the area. They will tend to have a southwest movement once they develop on Friday afternoon into the evening.

Highs will be held to about 90 again. The storms will die down through the evening with partly cloudy skies overnight. Rain chances are likely to be a little lower for the nature coast.

That same low pressure will then drift a little farther northeast on Saturday, making it into the Atlantic just east of Cape Canaveral. We will still get scattered storms Saturday afternoon to evening, with most of them having a southward movement once they form. Highs will be around 90 again that day.

Sunday will feature slightly drier air wrapping around on the backside of that low pressure, so we will have fewer showers and storms, but there will still be a 40 percent coverage by the end of the day. With more sunshine means slightly hotter highs in the low 90s.
