Here's your Tampa area weather forecast for late Friday into Saturday morning and on through the weekend.

  • Low over the area
  • High rain chances through Saturday
  • Some drier air later Sunday

The small low pressure that's nearly on top of us will be drifting northeastward this weekend and will end up in the Atlantic east of Cape Canaveral Saturday and Sunday. At that point it could slowly develop into a tropical storm, but it would not have a direct impact to our area as it would drift northeast away from us.

Elsewhere, things are quiet in the Caribbean and Atlantic at this time.

Locally, atmospheric moisture continues to be high due to that small low pressure on top of us.  Showers and storms may continue south of Tampa Bay through morning, with partly cloudy skies elsewhere.  Lows will be in the low 70s north, mid 70s inland, and upper 70s near the coast.

Saturday will start out similar with partly cloudy skies and a few scattered showers and storms south of Tampa.  As the day goes along, scattered storms will form and expand through the area.

As the day goes along scattered storms will form and expand through the area. They will tend to have a southward movement once they develop. Highs will be held to about 90 again.

Storms will start later for the nature coast and chances will be lower.  Highs will be held to about 90 again, a little warmer north and slightly cooler south.

The storms will die down through the evening, with partly cloudy skies overnight. Lows will be in the mid to upper 70s.

That same low pressure will then drift a little farther northeast on Sunday, making it into the Atlantic just east of Cape Canaveral. We will still get scattered storms Sunday afternoon to evening, but they will be fewer due to drier air coming into our atmosphere on the backside of that low pressure.

The higher rain chances will tend to shift to the other side of the state and also in the Atlantic.  Highs will be in the low 90s that day.
