An Inverness man has decided to head to Texas to help out with relief efforts. Now, he's asking community members to donate what they can so he can provide aid to those he comes into contact with during the trip.

With car load after car load, Andy Hallinan's trailer is quickly filling up with supplies for his trip to Texas.

"Whenever we see an issue like this where we can do something to help out something is better than nothing," Andy said.

He reached out to the Citrus County community to bring food and toiletry supplies to his store in inverness where he has his trailer parked to receive donations.

Third grader Lena Jacobs quickly grabbed her mother and brother and got as many supplies as they could, even some handmade soap bars. She said she wanted to make the donations because she knows so many people need help.

"Their houses are flooded and they are thirsty and hungry and they have nothing that they can eat and drink and they could die," Lena explained.

Lena said she feels good that her donations will make a difference in many people's lives.

Many others also made brought supplies like cartons of water, and even some food for the pets that also had to be rescued.

"I remember back after Katrina and people out there that were devastated needed everything and I just felt well if I can do something to help I'll at least bring some water they always need water," Donald Miller said.

Andy said he's going to have the trailer set up here for the next two days until they head for Texas Thursday morning

And besides just lending a helping hand, Andy hopes the trip will help bring people closer together.

"We don't care what their backgrounds are or they're preferences are or anything like that. It's just a little thing that we can do to help show some unity in this country," he explained.

In addition to food and water, Andy said they also need clothing, toiletries, diapers, and flashlights. They all can be dropped off at Florida Gun Supply on Pine Avenue in Inverness.
