St. Pete Beach city officials say the sewer pipes are full due to the heavy rain from Tropical Storm Emily.

The pumps at the sanitary sewer pipe system are working at full capacity, but having a tough time moving the increased volume through.

And to make matters worse, one of the pumps at a pump station on 55th Avenue went down, so only one pump is working. It may take 6 to 8 hours before getting a pump hooked up.

As a result, the city is asking residents and businesses to prioritize water usage as much as possible, and hold off on washing anything like clothes and dishes that don't need to be washed at the moment.

The city hopes things will be back to normal by 5 p.m.
