UPDATE: 9:20 a.m. - The portion of Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. in front of Clearwater High School is now back open after a fatal motorcycle crash overnight. 

ORIGINAL: The stretch of roadway in front of Clearwater High School has been closed due to a fatal crash involving a motorcycle.

Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire Rescue responded to the crash just after midnight at Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard and Hercules Avenue. 

The crash involved an SUV and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist, 23-year-old Joshua Douglass of Palm Harbor, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died. 

Authorities are advising that drivers should avoid that area for the next several hours. Drivers trying to get to Clearwater High should approach the school in the eastbound lanes on Gulf-to-Bay from Keene Road.

Drew Street is an alternative east-west route, while Keene Road or Belcher Road are north-south alternates.

The crash remains under investigation.
