Educators will cut the ribbon this week on a new school in Hillsborough County.

Warren Dawson Elementary was named after a local attorney who fought to desegregate the county's public schools.

Nearly 500 students from all over Riverview will be the first to go there.

For teachers like Allie Tew, the new facility is exciting.

"It's been like a little kid on Christmas morning," she said.

Principal Derrick McLaughlin said the school is wireless, so students can use laptops anywhere.

He showed off the school’s first-grade activity room, the soundproof television studio and a media center that's equipped with LED lighting.

The construction at Dawson Elementary is nothing compared to what's going on around it. New houses are being built in the area, meaning new families and the need for the new school.

Dawson was built to help with overcrowding in Riverview.

"I hope they will have a great year and are as excited about Dawson as all of the staff are," Tew said.

The new school cost the district $20 million, and students will get to see it at an open house Tuesday.

The first days for Hillsborough County Schools is Thursday.
