Gina Driscoll, by the slimmest of margins, will move on to the St. Petersburg District 6 general election in November.

During a recount today at the Pinellas County Superpvisor of Elections office, Driscoll bested Robert Blackmon by two votes - 1,216 to 1,214 - to officially take second place in Tuesday's primary election.

Justin Bean captured 21 percent of the vote to advance in the city council election in November. Robert Blackmon (17 percent), Gina Driscoll (17 percent) and Maria L. Scruggs (15 percent) followed closely behind.

Today's recount officially determined Bean's challenger. The reason for the recount is because a mere four votes initially separated Driscoll (1,215 votes) and Blackmon (1,211). Bean and Driscoll will face off in November.

There was a machine recount first at the Supervisor of Elections office, followed by the canvassing board manual recount. The vote was then certified.

"I'm so grateful for all of the supporters that I have and everyone who voted for me," Driscoll said. "It's a really great feeling. I feel very  confident going into the recount tomorrow and I'm ready to head to November."

Blackmon said he had been pleased with the results of his campaign.

Corey Givens Jr. finished fifth in the District 6 primary with nine percent (678) of the vote. Eritha Akile Cainion had seven percent (499), followed by James Scott at six percent (439) and Jim Jackson with three percent (260).

"It's really great when you get the extra interest from all the voters in an election like this," said Jason Latimer, the Pinellas Supervisor of Election Communications Director. "And it really does signify that every vote matters and every vote counts in the process."
