The power has slowly returned to homes in the Bay area; however, downed power lines continue to be a problem in some neighborhoods.

The energized lines left on one St. Petersburg street are now the source of heartache.

Sanford Margolis spent all of Saturday searching for his Siberian husky, Kiba. He found his dog dead a few houses down by fallen electrical wires.

Margolis said the neighborhood had been reporting the wire all week long but couldn't get anyone to come out and fix it.

"Neighbors had been calling Duke Energy for days, telling them about the downed wire back there, and nobody has done anything about it," he said.

"As a result, my dog is dead."

Margolis just wants to prevent this type of tragedy from happening again.

Bay News 9 reached out to Duke Energy, and the company said in a statement, "Our deepest sympathies for their loss. We know pets can be a part of the family."

Duke Energy said everyone should consider all downed power lines and electrical wires as energized or live, as well as anything in contact with these lines.

Customers are encouraged to report all power line hazards to Duke Energy or your local emergency services department or agency.
