Students in the Bay area went back to school Monday, Sept. 18, except for Polk County students, who return to school Tuesday.

It's back to normal for most students, except for some in Hillsborough County who lost their school during a fire after Hurricane Irma passed through.

The Lee Magnet School burned to the ground last week and now students and teachers will be gathering together at Lockhart Elementary.

The fire ripped through the historic school last week destroying the building and everything inside.

Fire officials said there is a possibility that the whole thing sparked when power returned to the neighborhood. Investigators estimate the fire caused about $5 million worth of damage.

It was a devastating blow to the school's 329 students, 49 teachers, and the community.

Friday, teachers and volunteers were at Lockhart Elementary decorating new classrooms. Thousands of dollars worth of school supply donations have poured in for the students. Moving into another school means there will be some changes for everyone, but teachers said they are all staying positive.

"Monday morning we are treating the school year as it is starting new. I went from a single unit to a co-teach unit, so we are embracing the fact that we are now going to be 31 students to two teachers as a family and we are going to start our new family together," teacher Samantha Levine said.

The students will all have their same teachers while they are at Lockhart and the school district also said counselors will be on hand Monday morning when they return.

And as usual, Monday will be an early release day for all Hillsborough County public schools.
